Part One
Kai burst into his bedroom, holding back tears. How could his parents do that? How? He collapsed onto his bed with a thump. How could his parents forget his birthday, then shout at him for complaining? It’s not right. He heard the front door slam, they had left him behind, they were going out for lunch and left him behind, his own mum and dad? Kai sat up on his bed, his thoughts racing, “What should I do?” he muttered to himself. He smirked and stood up, he would run away. Kai went out of his room and went to the trapdoor that let up to the attic. He pulled down the string and went up the ladder. He felt for the light switch and turned it on.
“Camping bag, camping bag,” he murmured as he searched frantically for the big brown bag. He saw it behind a big clump of old books and dragged it down the ladder, switching of the light on his way out. Back in his bedroom, he blew of the dust from the camping bag. This was the day he was leaving home, he never wanted to come back, ever. He unzipped the bag and placed in his pillows and a sleeping bag, his favourite books and some blankets. It was like packing for a huge holiday, he thought. Opening up the wardrobe he looked in, he wouldn’t pack any clothes apart from some jumpers and coats. Anyway, he liked the clothes he was wearing, some nice, light brown trousers and a thing blue and white t-shirt. On his dresser he saw things he would need, his pen-knife and a lighter, he had stole both of them from his dad earlier on, he hadn’t noticed though. Kai shoved them inside one of the coat pockets. He looked in the mirror, he had thick but short brown hair and really dark hazel eyes. After he had packed some more blankets, he hauled the bag downstairs and went through to the kitchen, he would need a lot of food, his parents would be shocked when they came home. Kai got a cool bag then opened up the fridge, shoving in any food he could find, even food he didn’t like. He left two things, a curry and the other pack of bacon. Kai put in a few knives and forks too. Kai was an independent twelve year old, he could live on his own anytime. After that he launched in some chocolate and other sugar-filled treats. Then he did something he was not so proud of, he took money from every nook and cranny through out the house. He even took some of the holiday money, will his share of it. Kai felt sickened that he was doing this but then fresh rage boiled up inside him. He opened up the back door and carried the camping bag all the way to the shop.
He bought everything that might be useful, maps, ropes, more food, lots of drinks, water bottles, another blanket, the shopkeeper even let him buy some firewood and a fishing kit. Now that he had bought all of this his bag was even more heavy. Quickly, he found a solution, he put on two jumpers and tied the rope around the bag. He took a map out of the side pocket of the bag and looked, he pointed to a place where he wanted to go, a place where he had always wanted to go, a place so close that it was shocking he was never allowed to go. But here he is already walking towards The Beach, the beach that’s sea is the Pacific Ocean. Kai walked past houses, past streets, following his map, he was walking for a good three hours when he finally saw the sight of the glimmering, blue ocean. The setting sun made a beautiful picture of the ocean so beautiful and so bright. A smile grew on his face, he quickly shoved the map into his coat pocket and followed the sea’s path.
